Around 42,000 people attended Los Angeles, Memorial Sports Arena, this past 9 & 10 of August for the convention type event, KCON, where everything Hallyu (Korean Wave) related is gathered and produced for the fans by MNet America and CJ Entertainment.
Besides idols and actors, fanclubs and asianamerican singers were at the con for enjoying and sharing their passion for Korea with all the assistants. Some of them: Danny Im (from the show “Danny from L.A“), Miles Jai (vlogger), Aimee Lee Lucas (choreographer), Connie Lim (singer/composer), DANakaDAN (HipHop artist), Henry & Miles (dancers), Lee SeungGi (actor)… And many more!
In this edition of KCON, there was a free entrance market zone, where traditional korean dishes, street food, music presented at the outdoor stage, covers from the local dance crews and movie nights (EXO’s “XOXO” on Saturday and the inspirational movie “Sunny” on Sunday).
There also were different types of workshops, such as dancing, cooking, Korean lessons, debates, meet & greets, lessons on how to make up yourself like a korean idol, mini games at the activity zone, just like the Running Man ones! Furthermore, there was a mini-friendly tournament of the online game League of Legends, with champions from South Korea. You could even learn how to become a “kpop fashionista”!
At the end of both days, the two nights of MNet in L.A were executed with complete success.
On Saturday, we had performances from:
- B1A4: The guys, with their big charisma on stage, performed What’s Happening?, Lonely, Solo Day, Glass of Water and Baby Goodnight.
- G-Dragon: Certainly, He is ‘One of a Kind‘ just as the title of his opening song, followed by Who You?, Crooked, MichiGo! and Crayon.
- IU: With a friendly and warm smile, she made her appearance with the hits Red Shoes, You & I, Friday (next to Niel, from Teen Top), Hey and Good Day.
- Teen Top: Overflowing energy and great dance moves from them is what we were able to see with Rocking, Miss Right, To You, Crazy and Rockstar.
- VIXX: They’ve always been known for their great coordination and this time wasn’t the exception. They proved it with Eternity, On & On, Voodoo Doll, Only U and Light Up the Darkness.
- Jun SungAhn accompanied by his violin, he made his act with Eyes.Nose.Lips (a cover of TaeYang’s song) and turned everybody up when him, next to GRV, interpreted Good Luck by B2ST.
And on the other side, on Sunday:
- BTS: Big smiles, power in their dance and talented rappers -and singers!- is what the guys showed with We are Bulletproof, Boy in Luv, I Like it, Talk and No More Dream.
- CNBLUE: Dressed for the occasion, these handsome guys made presence with Can’t Stop, Intuition, I’m a Loner y LOVE.
- Girls’ Generation: Beautiful girls with a fresh aura and cool matching outfits. They presented: Mr. Mr., Gee, Mr. Taxi, Hoot and Genie.
- Jung JoonYoung: Interpreted A Sense of an Ending, Hold On, From Me to Me, Teenager and besides that, him, next to Rap Monster from BTS, covered Michael Jackson’s Black or White.
- Spica: The girls made their English debut at KCON with the new single, I Did It. They also performed You Don’t Love Me, Painkiller, No Diggity, Tonight and a cover of Thank You, originally sung by Boys II Men.
- Jhameel: Next to his guitar, he performed a T-Pain’s, Buy You a Drink.
